Most windows are installed within one to two business days after measuring. Some window glass must be ordered and may require additional lead time. This generally happens with tempered safety glass for dual pane and single pane window repairs.

A1: Tempered glass (AKA safety glass) is heat-treated so it breaks into tiny pieces instead of large shards. It is also stronger than regular (annealed) glass, generally four times stronger. It is also required by law in some locations such as doors, showers, and glass less than 20 inches from the ground or a door.
A2: A grid pattern is the decorative lines that may be inside a dual-pane window creating the appearance of little windows. These are also called muntins or French windows.

If your window is tempered, it is because it is near a door, bathtub, shower, or pool. There are regulations making tempered glass required in certain parts of your home. Any glass used in a door is tempered. Generally, if someone can fall through the glass, it is tempered. All doors, glass less than 20 inches from a door or the ground, all shower door glass, or any window glass located less than 60 inches from a bathtub drain level. If tempered safety glass is required by law, we will only replace the glass with tempered safety glass.

A retrofit window is a brand new window, both frame, and glass. It is usually made of a vinyl frame and low e (energy efficient glass). Typically a retrofit is installed when the frame is old, damaged beyond repair or missing. The installation of an energy-efficient retrofit window is generally considered an upgrade to a home.

If your home was built after 1978, then you will have dual pane windows. Looking at a broken window, you can see if it is a dual-pane or not. Dual panes have a spacer between the 2 panes of glass.

Yes, dual pane units are made by sealing two pieces of glass together with a chemical in between, to properly insulate your home. Cut Rate Glass specializes in custom shower door glass installation. Typically showers come in two varieties framed and frameless. This notes the amount of metal used in the installation of the glass shower as well as the thickness of the glass. Framed showers typically have metal around most of the glass while a frameless shower glass has only clips and hinges.

Because each retrofit window and door are special ordered and custom to the opening of the home, the lead time is longer than just glass replacement. Currently, the standard lead time for retrofit windows and doors is 3-5 weeks, though some special orders can go slightly longer.

In the glass industry and local glass shops, the term heavy glass generally refers to glass that is thicker than 3/8. Typically frameless shower doors and glass panels are 3/8 inch thick. Thicker 1/2 inch glass can also be installed for your new shower glass but it is not used as often.
